悲劇of悲劇（re:日本一周#10）

前日の夜、同じくひとり旅をしていた親父と姫路で寿司を食いながら色んな話をした

もう内容はあんまり覚えてないけど（2年前の話だからさ）ホテルも取ってもらってそれはそれはゆっくり休めた姫路の夜だった

そんな今日は姫路から岡山に入って、笠岡という岡山と広島の県境くらいの街を目指す

10日目の道のり

10日目は悲劇の連続の1日だった

お祓い行こうかなって思うくらいには悲劇の連続だった。

午前中のうちはこれから起こる悲劇の影もなく、姫路を出発してから順調に相生を越える。

姫路を過ぎると街並みは急激に田舎へと変わった

のどかな雰囲気の田舎道をトコトコ走っていく

朝の涼しさと田舎の空気の美味しさもあって気持ちよく走って、岡山との県境に待ち構える鯰峠と船坂峠を超え始める、

峠越えを始めた時に悲劇の序章が始まる。

それは峠を登ってる時に起こった

「ガシャン」

路面の悪い道のくぼみに車輪がはまって、大きく揺れた自転車。そのはずみで、唯一積んであった水が落ちて、坂道をコロコロ転がっていった。

ただ相当下に行ってしまったペットボトルのためだけにもう一回峠を登りなおすことはしたくなくて「次の自販機で飲み物買おう」くらいにしか思わずに走り出す。

日差しがどんどん強くなる中、自販機を探しながら峠を登っていたんだけど、峠の途中の山の中ということもあって自販機なんか無かった。

そこからはだんだんフラフラしながら、流れ出す汗に体の水分量だけが失われて行く状況で、考えることをやめてひたすら登った。

峠があまり高くないのも幸いして、なんとか困難を乗り切って岡山に入る

岡山に入ってからすぐにコンビニも見つかって、とりあえずの危機は脱したヨコイシは元気も戻って機嫌良く走り始める。

岡山は大したアップダウンも無くて走りやすくて、午前11時には90キロくらいの距離を走る調子の良さで飛ばしまくる。

そして岡山市街に向かって、坂道を下っていた時に最大の悲劇が起こった

「ブシューーーー」

不吉な音が後輪から聞こえる

ドキッとしながらも、路肩に自転車を止めて確認すると

「あ、やったわ…」

クソほど太くて長い釘がしっかり刺さっていた

空気も一瞬で抜けた。

仕方なくパンク修理キットで治そうと、タイヤを分解した時に衝撃の事実が待っていた

太くて長い釘はタイヤを貫通して、5箇所ほどの太い穴を開けていた。

パンク修理キットは残り3個しかなくて、どう頑張っても修理できない。

換えのチューブも無かった。

ようするに自分の力では治せなかった。

絶望の中で初めて旅を存続できるかなって本気で悩んだ。

今思えばいくらでも存続できる手立てはあるんだけど、なんせこの頃は初めて10日のぺーぺーだったから、思考が停止してしまったんだ。

とりあえず10分くらいフリーズした後に、思い立ったようにスマホで近くの自転車屋を検索すると、10キロ弱先に自転車屋さんが見つかった

もう覚悟を決めて、炎天下の中を自転車を引きずりながら歩き出した。

その日は本当に暑くて、水を何回も頭からかぶりながら歩いた。

フラフラしながら2時間くらい歩き通して、ようやくたどり着いた自転車屋で直してもらう。

この時の安堵は半端なかった。

まだ旅を続けられるんだって本気で思った

冷たい水もご馳走になって、気合いを入れた後にまた治った自転車で走り出す。

意気揚々と走り出して5キロくらい。

「プシューーー」

信じられなかった。

さっき直してもらったばかりの後輪からはまた空気が抜けていた。

多分うまく修理できてなかったんだろうけど、今のヨコイシには文句を言いに戻る体力も無くて、ただ絶望した。

ただ絶望したまま、スマホで調べた5キロ先のプロショップに行くことにした。

町の自転車屋は信用しないと心に決めた。

また炎天下の中、自転車を引きずって5キロ歩き出す。

この時はなんでこんな大変な思いをしてまで旅してるのか本気で分からなかった

頭もフラフラしてて思考停止してる中でひたすら歩いた。

やっと辿り着いたプロショップで直してもらったあとは、換えのチューブを3本も買った

もう2度と同じ苦しみを味わいたくなかったし、これからは絶対に自分で全部直してやろうって決意表明したんだ。

全てが終わった時、あんなに調子よく走っていたくせに、時刻は四時を回っていた。

今日の目的地まであと50キロくらい。

日暮れになる前にってだけ思って必死で走る

倉敷の風光明媚な町もスルーして


日が沈みつつある岡山を激走する

しかもこの日はパンツの洗濯が間に合わなくてノーパンで走ってたもんだから、必死で走ったり、15キロ歩いた時にこすれた内ももにデキモノが出来てて、それが最後のスパートで潰れたせいでくそほど痛かった。

自転車旅の人に言いたいけど、ノーパンはマジでやめたほうがいい（当たり前）

そして6時半。デキモノをかばいながらようやくたどり着いた道の駅笠岡。

ここは24時間解放されている休憩所があって、畳で眠れる。

それだけが悲劇が続いた今日の救いだった。

気づけば爆睡していた。

この日の深夜に起こる恐怖の出来事も知らずに…

走行距離 138キロ

兵庫県姫路市→岡山県笠岡市

総走行距離 1220キロ
