鹿児島の夜は宴が深夜まで続く

まずは夜、黒豚ホルモン屋さんに連れて行ってもらって、「え？もうなにこれ、美味しすぎるし、地のものってこんなに違うんだ」ってなって言葉を失った肉を食べまくる

もちろんお供は鹿児島焼酎だ

鹿児島には１つの町に１つっていうレベルで酒蔵があるらしく、まるで水のように焼酎を煽っている。しかもまたこれが美味い

ホルモン食べながら飲むとかもはや反則級に美味い

修学旅行の民泊でお世話になった高校時代から大学受験を経て旅に出るまでの色んな話をおじちゃんとおばちゃんとする

勉強はどうだーとか

彼女はまだいるかーとか

旅はたのしいかーとか

お酒を飲みながら話す

どうやら俺はそんな何気ない会話を、こうやってお酒を飲みながら和気藹々と話す時間が何より好きらしい

特に、こうやってお世話になった人と数年ぶりに酌み交わす乾杯とか、地元のおじちゃおばちゃんと仲良くなって酌み交わす乾杯とか…

その地域の風景を一人で見るより

その地域の人と乾杯した方が、その地域のことを知れるし、何より好きになるんじゃないか

そう思いながら、ヨコイシは鹿児島がどんどん好きになっていった


宴は深夜1時まで続いてお開きに

次の日の早朝6時には出発の準備をして、おじちゃんおばちゃんと固い握手を交わす

「必ず無事にゴールしてまた遊びに来るから」

そう念を込めて握手したからきっと通じてるはずだ。

まだ頭の痛い身体に鞭打って一路薩摩半島を南へ走り始める

そんな今日の道のりは指宿から開聞岳を通過して坊津を目指すルートだ

坊津では今日鹿児島でお世話になったおばちゃんの弟が住んでいるらしく紹介してもらった

人との繋がりが繋がりを生むって素敵だな

なんて思いながらまずは指宿へ向かう

今日もまたいい天気の海沿いを走る

暑くなってきたときは木陰で休憩して

指宿に近づくと花畑が続く南国になっていく

ヤシの木の道を抜けると、いよいよ温泉地指宿に到着だ

指宿といえば砂蒸し風呂

入らないわけにはいかないぜ

ってことでいざ砂浜に埋められにいく

徐々に暖かくなる砂の中でいつしか大汗をかいて、真夏にすっきりと汗をかいた気分

そんな指宿の砂蒸し風呂で疲れをとったら、いよいよ薩摩の名峰開聞岳に向かって進む

のどかな田園を横目に走る

まだ8月初旬だというのに、稲は刈り取られ干されている。同じ日本でも地域によってこんなに差があることは日本の広さを感じさせてくれる

ふわっと漂う乾いた稲の匂いはまるで秋の日本みたいだった

そして道の先に開聞岳が見えてくる

薩摩富士と言われる名峰はまさに富士山のように均整のとれた美しさだ

いい夏だ

日本の夏は本当に素敵だなぁと思う

どこか漂うノスタルジアと風情がある

風から風鈴の音が聞こえてきそうな、涼しい風

海からは汽笛が聞こえてくる

天まで抜けた青い空を眺めながら、

陽の匂いのする草原の風に包まれながら

目的地の坊津に辿り着く

坊津はリアス式海岸のような入り組んだ海岸線が続く町で海の青さも外海なだけあって特別美しい

鹿児島は食も自然も人も、100点満点

坊津のおじちゃんに挨拶を済ませて、また色んな話をしようなんて思いながら、乾杯した
