自転車日本一周 2年目

台風に捕まるな〜試練の170キロ（re:日本一周#50）

昨晩の宴は地元の伊勢海老をご馳走になりながら、おじちゃんと2人で乾杯

翌日、50日目の朝は早かった

午前5時半に起きて6時には出発

なんでこんなに朝早いかって？

そう、台風5号の接近があったからだ

予報だと8月5日の午後から7日にかけて九州全体が大きな被害を受けるという

そして今日は8月4日

そう、めちゃくちゃ大ピンチなのだ

このままいけば台風に捕まって自転車もろとも吹き飛ばされるかもしれない…

どうしよう…そう考えたヨコイシには２つの選択肢があった

１つは普通に走れば、6日らへんに到達する熊本にて、停滞する。

しかし、熊本にアテのないヨコイシは、お金を使ってどこかに泊まる他なくなる

もう１つの選択肢が、6日の午前中までに長崎県佐世保市の小さい頃からお世話になっていて、去年も旅の時にもお世話になった親戚の家に行く…

しかし、この案は現在地である鹿児島の端っこから長崎まで、2日半で約350キロ走らなければ辿り着かない…

そんな状況の中、南九州の台風をよく知るおじちゃんと昨日の晩に話し合い、アドバイスをもらって覚悟を決めた。南九州を襲う台風は本当に猛烈だから、出来れば安心して泊まれるようなところで停滞した方がいいと。


そう。ヨコイシは熊本を観光しつつ、足早に長崎に向かうことに決めた。そして長崎で一時停滞し台風をやり過ごしながら、折を見て長崎を回ろうという作戦に出たのだ

この作戦を成功させるためには、今日のうちにどうしても170キロ走って熊本県に入らなければならないということが絶対条件だった

それが出来なければ台風に巻き込まれることは必至だったから

ということで午前6時、お世話になった坊津のおじちゃんと固い握手を交わして走り出した

おじちゃんは朝早くから握ってくれた握り飯を持たせてくれた。

本当にこんな朝早くからありがとう

また一つ日本に大切な場所が出来た

後ろ髪引かれる思いで走り出す

そんな今日の道のりは過酷だ

アップダウンが激しい九州をほぼ半分くらいは縦断する

ラスボスは九州で一番きついぞーと地元民に噂される三太郎峠。太郎と名の付く峠が3連続で待ち構えているらしい。

今日の目的地はそんな三太郎を越えた先にある道の駅だ

気合いを入れて南さつまの町々を越えていく

坊津→南さつま→日置→いちき串木野と60キロ程度をまずは走って時刻は午前10時

台風が近づいているとは思えない天気の良さだ

朝の涼しさもあってここまでは順調

今のうちに距離を稼いでおきたくて、スピードをさらにあげる

熊本県との県境 水俣まで50キロになった

今日の目的地まではあと80キロだ

そして午後1時には阿久根市に入る

ここまで100キロ走ってきた

鹿児島県の海の美しさに元気をもらってなんとかハイペースで進んできたけど、流石にノンストップで疲れが出てきたので、阿久根の道の駅で少し休憩

おじちゃんの握り飯を食べる

正直ここまでこの暑さの中で100キロ走ってきて、この後まだ70キロ残ってるってなかなか心折れそうな状況だったけど、握り飯は特別元気が出るなぁ…少し涙が出そうだ

よっしゃ気合い入れて走り直すぜ！

いくぜ！って感じで走り出したら

……

突然のゲリラ豪雨

思わず軒下でストップ

本当に神様はわかってるよなぁ。一筋縄ではいかせないぜ感がすごいもん

そんな雨自体はすぐ止んだけど、台風の影響か向かい風がどんどん強くなっていく

そんな向かい風に向かってなんとか食らいつく

そして午後四時

いよいよ熊本に入った

140キロ激走してやっとだ

とりあえずあと30キロになったけど、ここから待ち構えるのが難所の三太郎峠

まずは身体に鞭を打つために

安定のガリガリ君ドーピング

そして満身創痍で3連続の峠が並ぶ難所。三太郎峠へ。

きつかったけど、それ以上に、今日ずっと走り続けていた身体は麻痺していた

脚が重いとか、疲れたとかほとんど感じずに走るマシーンになっていた感覚だ

そして午後6時半

170キロを無事に走り切って、12時間にも及ぶ激走を終えた

夕日を見てたら疲れがどっとでてきたみたいだ

今日の道の駅は24時間開放されてる休憩所に畳があったから、遠慮なくここで寝かせてもらうことにする。

ほぼ使い果した体力に比例するように、気づけば泥のように眠っていた

走行距離 170キロ

鹿児島県坊津町→熊本県芦北町

総走行距離 3963キロ

20キロ以上ひたすら続くオーシャンビューの道のりは鹿児島県の海の美しさを一番堪能できた
