1時間ほど車を走らせて辿り着いたホテルは一人でこの広さ。有り難すぎて涙が出そうだ。

「野宿は寒いから良かったらおいで！迎えに行くしもちろん明日の朝も阿久根まで送るから！」と言ってくださった優しさが沁みる

まずは和希の親父さんと2人でホテルの温泉に入って、溜まった疲れを癒し、

そして夜ごはんは親父さんとホテルでバイキングだ

肉に寿司に美味しすぎる好物がなんでも揃うバイキングでたらふく食べてビールで乾杯。

和希の親父さんと、旅のことから大学生活のこと、仕事のことまで本当に色々話すことができた

そして自然造の日本最南端の酒造で作られた亀萬という地元の日本酒もホテル側のご厚意でなんと一本まるまるサービスしていただき、お酒も進み話も進む。

亀萬はすっきり辛口で癖がなく、くいくい飲めてしまう。流石暑い九州で飲みやすく作られたんだなぁと分かる素敵なお酒だった。

宴もたけなわ。お話もお酒も盛り上がってとても素敵な夜にも終わりが来る。横石は明日も歩かなければいけないので、飲みすぎる前に親父さんと名残惜しくもお別れして、そのまま部屋で爆睡。

そして朝

不知火海が一望できる贅沢な部屋で海を見ながら起床だ。

朝ごはんもバイキングなので例に漏れず、昼の分まで食べる勢いでたらふく食べて、7時半にお母さんの迎えの車に乗って阿久根へ

本当にいい夜だったなぁ…

しかもお母さんは直接阿久根に向かわずにどうしても見てみたかった阿久根の隣街出水にある日本最大規模の鶴の渡来地へと連れて行ってくれた

渡来地が近づくと、ただの田んぼでも鶴たちが優雅にお散歩。灰色っぽいのがナベヅルで現在出水に15000羽以上渡来している中の9割以上を占めている

そしてそのうちの500ほどしかいないレアキャラの

目の周りが赤いマナヅルも見ることが出来た。しかもこれも普通の田んぼで。

なんか日本じゃないみたいだなぁ…こんなに普通なところで鶴が見れるなんて想像もしてなかった…

そしていよいよ渡来地のど真ん中へ

と言ってもここは厳重に疫病などから鶴を守っているため中には入らず、まだ展望台も空いていなかったため、チラ見程度だったが

もはや気持ち悪くなるほど大量にいた笑笑

こいつら全部鶴だと思うと凄さと同時に笑えてくる

ちなみに横石が自転車日本一周の時に北海道で見た鶴は1番有名なタンチョウで留鳥なのでここには来ていない。ここに来ているのは外国から渡来した鶴が多いのだ。

絶え間なく響く鶴の鳴き声に包まれて、日本最大規模のスケールの大きさを感じる

ちなみに鶴はまた季節になれば夜に飛んで日本を離れるらしいが、水俣の上空も通って行くらしく、寝ている時に何羽もの鶴の鳴き声が聞こえてくるのが風物詩となっているらしい。素敵なことだなぁ。

そして9時半に阿久根の道の駅に戻ってきた

名残惜しいけどお別れの時だ

色んなお話を出来て本当に良かったです

水俣のお母さんお父さんが出来たようなほんわかした気持ちで車を見送って、横石も南へ歩き出す

今日は10時という遅めのスタートなので32キロ先の道の駅樋脇というところを目指す

阿久根の海は本当に綺麗だ。日本一周の時に見た夏の海も綺麗だったが、冬はまた少し違った色合いで迎えてくれた。青が深くなった感じだ

そしてこの海沿いから国道3号は少し中へ入って小さな峠を越えて

薩摩川内市へ入る。

そしてまた海沿いに出て

人形岩などの景勝地を眺めて

ここから3号は内陸ののどかな田舎道へ

ひたすらアップダウンが続くが、日本をこれだけ歩いていればこのくらいはデフォルトになっているので余裕を持って歩く

いただいたちくわを食べながらのんびりと

今日は32キロしか歩かないっていう余裕もあったし、もうここまで来たらゆっくりゆっくり歩こうと決めていた。というか、残り少ない旅路はゆっくり噛み締めて歩きたかった。

最近毎日寂しいんだ。それは独りが寂しいのではなくて、終わりが見えなかった長い旅路にも果てが見えてきたことが、まるで学校の卒業式間近のような寂しさを感じさせる。

出来ることならこの身体が消滅するまで歩き続けたいと思ってしまうほどに、気づけば歩き旅に魅せられていた自分がいた。

スタートから22キロで薩摩川内市街へ

なかなか整備された綺麗な街並みを進んで

川内駅から国道3号を逸れて県道42号を東南へ鹿児島市方面へ向かう

ここでまた峠を2個ほど越え、午後5時に目的地の道の駅樋脇に到着

そしてこの道の駅は市比野温泉という温泉街のすぐそばにあって

旅人の大好物、足湯があるではないかぁぁぁ！

ということで入浴！

いただいたビールで1人寒空の下で足湯しながら乾杯。

なんて贅沢なんだろう

横石は今日本で1番幸せ者の自信がある

そして夜はスペシャルゲストが道の駅に訪問してくれて熱く語り合う夜になった…
