その先（徒歩日本縦断#42）

冷え込んだ夜だった

前夜、渋峠という僻地までバイク日本一周の最終日に来てくれたゆーたと凍えながらキムチ鍋を囲む

標高1650m。大自然に2人だけのキャンプだ。

北の果てで初めて出会ったゆーたとゆーた自身の旅の最後の夜を過ごす。かれこれこの旅で彼は4回も横石と夜を共にしてくれた。

同い年の旅人だからこそ分かり合えることもある

新潟から持って来てくれた日本酒を乾杯しながら旅の話、これからの話、アホみたいな話。たくさんして就寝。

そして今日

起きたはいいけど寒すぎて外に出れない

標高1650mの山の中はこの時期で10度まで下がっていた。今日は長野市まで43キロ歩かなければいけないので、本来は余裕を持って6時には出発するけど、今日ばかりは7時に出ようと決めてのんびりする。

そして6時半には覚悟を決めて寝袋から出て、震えながら結露でびしょ濡れのテントを片付ける

その頃ゆーたも寝袋から出られない病気にかかっていたので、最後の別れはここから18キロ峠を下った先にある道の駅ですることになった

歩きだと3時間半なのにバイクだと20分で降りてこれるので、それまでゆーたは二度寝を決めるらしい。羨ましい…

なんて思ってても時間は過ぎていくだけなので、7時少し過ぎた頃に出発

そんな今日のみちのり

歩き始めると少しずつ身体もあたたまる

加えて今日は快晴。北アルプスも望めるワインディングをひたすら下る

歩いていて気分がいい。

トレッキング気分で朝の木漏れ日の下を早足で抜けていく

途中でいくつもの池があったり、とにかく変化に富んだ山道だ。つい鼻歌交じりで進むと

気づけば眼下には昨日スタートした町が広がる

こうやって山を下って来て町を望める位置まで来ると、どこか安心した気持ちになる

そして歩き始めて3時間ほどで激動の峠越えからのどかな長野の風景に戻って来た。

稲刈り寸前の黄金色に波打つ海と、信州の美しい山々と人々が生活を営む街並みが目の前にパノラマとして広がる。思わず足を止めて空気を吸い込む。秋の始まりの風が鼻を抜けていく

長閑な田園風景を眺めながら

10時半に道の駅に到着。

裏手でびしょ濡れのテントを乾かしながらゆーたの到着を待つ

そして11時にゆーたが登場

最後にがっちりと拳を合わせて、2人とも同時に「ありがとな！」と言っていた。

ゆーたはこの日本一周でどんな景色を目に焼き付けたんだろうか。人それぞれ、たとえ見ている風景、街並みは同じでも、見えている景色は違うはずだ。

極論を言ってしまえば、同じ「緑色の山を見ている」と言っても、隣にいる人が見ている緑はいま横石が見ている緑とは同じとは限らない。

でも、だからこそ人は旅をするんだろう

自分だけの色を見つけるために旅をする

なぁ、ゆーたはどんな色見つけたんだ

歩き旅はいつも旅立つ人を見送ってばかりだ

なんてったって1番進むのが遅いから。

ゆーたも遠い道の先に消えていく

どうかこの先、見送る人たちの、その先が、温かい光の苗床でありますように。

そして横石の旅路もそうでありますように。

たくさんの陽だまりに包まれた旅でありますように。

まぁそんな心配しなくったって、きっとこの道の先でどこかでみんな旅している。元気にやっててくれればそれでいい。横石も元気に歩くぞ

ゆーたを見送ってから、少しセンチになっていたけど、足取りは軽く、早くなっていた。

まぁ単純にずっと下り坂だったから軽くなったと錯覚した部分もあるんだろう

盆地とそれを囲む山という、なんとも長野らしい風景を見ながら2時には軽々30キロを歩いていた。

そして県庁所在地の長野市に入ったころ、下り基調の道は終わり平坦になる。

そしてここらへんから横石の体に異変が起こる。

朝は10度しかなかった気温が32度にまで上がったからなのと、前日までの峠越えの疲れが一気に来たのだろう。それに下り基調が終わったからっていうのもあると思うが、足がズシンと重くなった。

ここは根性の見せ所や！

なんて無理はしないで、しっかり休憩をこまめに取る。

そして午後5時に、身体に大事なく無事に43キロを歩き終えた。

今日はこれから高校の同級生が長野で働いているというので一緒に飲む約束だ。

埼玉の高校の同級生と長野で飲むとは、どんな奇跡だろう。楽しみすぎて禿げそうだ（陽に当たりすぎて髪が茶色になってるのが最近の悩み）

歩行距離 45キロ（着いた後うろちょろしてた）

長野県山ノ内町→長野県長野市

総歩行距離 1409キロ
