夏のバーゲンセール（徒歩日本縦断#43）

昨日の夜は高校の同級生である武田が長野で働いているので、あいつの仕事終わりに長野で乾杯

2人ともお金がないからファミレスで飲むことになったけど、そもそも高校の時なんてファミレスで充分だったし、わざわざ居酒屋に行かなくても心はあの時のままだから楽しめた

15歳の時に同じクラスになって出会って、気づけばもう7年経つのか…早すぎる

昔話に花が咲くのもまた面白い

思い出はこういう時のためにあるのかもね

なんて思いながら武田は会社の寮なので泊まることはできずに、近くのネカフェ行こうとしたら

まさかのやってない

いやネカフェってやってないとかあるの？

衝撃を受けながら途方にくれる21時。

仕方なく、長野駅に行けばなんかあるだろってことで夜の追加ウォーキングが始まった。

この時点で46キロ歩いてたのに、長野駅に行けば今日も50キロ歩くことになってしまう。距離感がどんどんガバガバになっていくが、流石に県庁所在地ど真ん中で野宿はしたくないので駅前のネカフェへと歩く。

「このネカフェもやってなかったり満室だったらもう夜通し歩いたるわ」なんてよくわからんテンションになりながら夜の長野を放浪

繁華街に入ると、土曜の夜ということもあって多くの人たちで賑わっていた。

そんな中、でかいバックパック背負った黒焦げの男は死んだ顔で歩く。

カップルが多いのがまた腹立つ。

まぁよくよく考えたらこんな夜の繁華街にこんな格好した旅人がいるのが異質だろう。でも夜になってまで歩くと思ってなかったんだ。腹がたつのも許してほしい。

そんなこんなで結局長野駅前のネカフェはやっていたので、夜10時に辿り着いてそのまま泥のように眠る。

そして朝。7時にネカフェを出る

長野駅

今日は長野と松本の中間地点にある36キロ先の筑北村という村の道の駅まで行く予定だ。

36キロなんて今の横石からしたら近いと思ってしまうところがまた怖い。しかも標高966mの峠も道中にあるのだけど、それもまた余裕と思ってしまう自分が怖い（一ヶ月前は800mの中山峠がめっちゃ恐ろしかったのに）

てことで横石にしてはだいぶゆっくりめにコンビニで朝ごはんを食べて、朝8時半に歩き始めた

最近唯一の懸念材料はカカトがすり減りすぎた靴だ。流石に1500キロ近く歩いていれば当たり前だし、よく持っている方だと思うけど、せめてこれから挑む日本一の峠を越えるまでは息が続いてほしいと願いながら歩く。

長野駅から犀川を越えてさらに8キロほど歩くと街は一気に田舎道へと戻っていった

夏が去ったと思いきや、まだまだ夏は終わらんぞと入道雲はニョキニョキ生える。猫じゃらしもニョキニョキ生える。風はカラッとして秋の風になってきているけど、横石的にこれはまだ夏と言っておきたい。まだ秋って思いたくないのだ。子供だから。

せっかく晴れてるし、少し寄り道して千曲川の土手を歩く

今日は雲がいい調子だ。

もうすぐ秋だからって売れ残った夏をバーゲンセールしてくれてるみたいだ

土手を自転車かっ飛ばして走り去っていく少年たちが眩しい。横石も混ざりたい。少し後を追って走ってみたら一瞬風になった。そのあとは泥のように遅くなった。眩しい少年にはなりきれないようだ。

たまにある高架下で涼みながら少しずつ進む。

そして12時に千曲市街に到着

スーパーで昼休憩をする

到着予想時間は自転車ナビだからこんなに早いんだよ

午後はいよいよ峠越え。

966mはもうあまり怖くないが、それより夏をバーゲンセールし過ぎてるんじゃね？ってくらいに暑い。よって日陰から出たくない病が発動していた

気づいたら1時に迫っていて、「流石にやばい、日暮れまでに辿り着けなくなっちゃう」ってことで無理やり病気を消し去り歩き出す

ここは宿場町だったらしく、風情ある街並みを汗だくになりながらひたすら登る

ここは親切にも横石が登る猿ヶ馬場峠への道のりが示してあったので、言われた通りに国道をそれて細い道に入ると

予想以上に急斜面で細い道へ

それでも道案内を信じて進むと

ガチな山の中へ入っていく

「え？怖。流石に引き返そうかな」と思ったけれど、ここまでわざわざ登った道を引き返すのもめんどくさくて、林道に突っ込んでいった

そして後悔。

人1人通らない鬱蒼とした林道で、しかも相当斜度がある道だ。それに加えて至る所に「クマ注意」の看板。ダメ押しで電波が届かなくなり、道案内の看板も消える。

後から知ったが、どうやらここは善光寺通りという旧道らしい。そりゃ人も通らないわけだ。

電波も届かないクマ注意の林道を1人で歩くのは本当に怖かった。せめて道案内の看板が至る所にあれば「この道あってるな」と確認できるわけだが、それさえ無いとなると、いよいよ果てしない山の中に迷い込んだ気分になる

エメラルドグリーンの綺麗な池もあったけど、それさえ逆に怖い。異世界に入り込んだみたいだ。

とりあえず大声で歌いながら駆け足で山道を登る。こんな時に兄貴から教わった自衛隊の必殺技ラックサックマーチを使うのかと思った（時速6.7キロで山道をひたすら行進するという鬼の行進方法）

途中二股に分かれる道もあったけど、ここは山を登る方を選ぶ。迷った時は下るではなくて登ったほうが良い気がした。下って変な道に出たらいよいよ横石は峠を登ってるはずなのに迷子ってことになるから。

心の中で泣きながら山を登り続けると

思わず声が出た。驚嘆の声。

気づけば遥か下に長野や千曲市街を見下ろせるところまで来ていたらしい。

そして同時に車が走る音が遠くから聞こえてくる。どうやら無事に国道沿いまで登ってこれたようだ。思わず安堵してしまったが、国道に出るまでは気を緩めずに林道を車の音を頼りに進んで。

無事に国道に出た。

国道に出た瞬間、目の前に聖高原の聖湖が広がる。みんなバス釣りをしているらしい。

のどかな人間界に出れて今度は本当に救われた気分だった。

まぁ林道だからこその景色も見られたしいいとするか、結果オーライだ。

この時時刻は午後2時。どうやら駆け足で登ってきたお陰で6.5キロの山道を1時間で駆け上がったらしい。

ここでどっと疲れがきたので30分休憩して、今度は国道をひたすら下っていく。今日はもう林道は勘弁だ。

稲刈りが終わった農村を眺めながらゆったり下っていって

5時過ぎに無事目的地の道の駅に到着。

まさかのトイレしかない道の駅だったけど、逆に野宿するにはちょうどいい静けさだ。

明日はいよいよ北アルプスの玄関口松本へ
