夏つばめ（徒歩日本縦断#88）

岡山でお世話になってる方のお家で久しぶりに、本当に久しぶりに二度寝をして午前9時に気持ち良く起きる。

今日までは少し頑張りすぎた長旅の疲れを癒すために岡山で休養だ

朝から普段じゃ食べることのできない健康的な朝ごはんを頂く

シャケがこんなに美味しいなんて…

味噌汁がこんなにあたたかいなんて…

ご飯をしっかりお代わりして、朝の準備が完了したら、まずはオールウェイズ三丁目の夕日のロケ地にもなった趣ある街並みの残る場所を案内してもらう

今にもあのテーマソングが聞こえてきそうな街並みだ。

いつもの旅より少しだけのんびり、歩く

思えばこの1ヶ月は進むことに必死だった

それはそれで「自分の足で進む」ことが大好きな横石は満足だったが、たまにはゆっくりと、地元のおばあちゃんと散歩するくらいのペースで歩いて止まって、空気を吸って。そんな1日も悪くないなぁ、なんてこののんびりした街を眺めていると思う。

そんな街、西大寺には、中国観音1番札所の西大寺があるのでお参り

「お前また札所巡りするんか？！」と思わず突っ込まれそうな勢いでお遍路の後すぐにきたが、しません。安心してください。

のんびりお寺を眺めた後は、地元の定食そば屋さんへ連れてきていただいた。

そばヒレカツ定食というなんともガッツリした定食で身も心も満たされて、その後は昼寝

気づけば2時間以上昼寝してしまった…

昼寝したのなんて旅中初めてではないだろうか…本当に格別に気持ちいい時間を過ごして、午後からは隣の瀬戸内市にある知る人ぞ知る地元の方が憩う神社へ

牛窓神社という集落の高台にある神社を参拝して、木々に囲まれた参道を下っていく

途中でふわっと懐かしい匂いがして立ち止まる

匂いの正体は樹液のムワッとしたあの匂い

小さい頃はこの匂いがすると「あ、クワガタがいるかも」なんて匂いをたどりながら林を駆け回ったものだ。

今はスズメバチ様が独り占めしていたが、きっと夏になれば地元の子供達がここに虫取りに来たりするんだろう。

そして目の前には

瀬戸内海が広がった

もう11月なのに温暖な海風が身体を包む

夏つばめ
水軍あとの
島の陰

明易き
瀬戸の沖ゆく
舟の音

誰の句だろうか

誰もいない海を見渡す高台の石碑にひっそりと刻まれた句がひどく胸を打つ

瀬戸内の静かな青い海。まるで時間が止まっているかのように凪いでいるこの穏やかな海は日本中どこを探しても瀬戸内海以外には無い。

夏には海風から陸風に変わる瞬間にピタッと風が止んで、音が無くなる瞬間を「瀬戸の夕凪」と言うらしい。

そんな穏やかな暖かい海はどこか旅人をどこか懐かしい気分にさせてくれる。

西日差し込み始めた海を眺めながら、消え入りそうな波の音を聞いて浜辺に座る

瀬戸内の人々は、そんな穏やかな海で育ったからか、心なしかのんびりしている。風景と人はやはりどこかで繋がっているのだ。東京の人が「急いでいる」と言われるように、瀬戸の人は「凪いでいる」人々だった。

防波堤に寝転ぶ

夏よりも少しだけ淡い青が頭上に広がる

今までなんども言ってきたセリフがある

「まだ誰も知らないような日本の絶景を知りたい」

そして4年間、日本を旅し続けてきて思ったことがある

それは、このセリフはあくまでも格好つけているセリフでしか無いこと。

四年目にしてようやく、自分が旅において心から追い求めている風景が見えてきた

それは「誰も知らない風景」ではなく「誰もが知っている風景」を見たいのだ

「知っている」というのは、「本当に知っている」ということでは無い。

誰でも一度は経験があるだろう。旅行先で本当は見たことのないはずの風景でも、「あれ？この風景はどこか見たことある風景だなぁ。懐かしくて落ち着くなぁ」という感情

日本人だからこそ感じる、ノスタルジー溢れる日本の原風景。ふるさとの風景。そんな風景を追いかけていたい。

そんな風景の中では必ずおばあちゃん達が井戸端会議をしていて。子供達が走りながら笑い合っている。野良猫はのんびり昼寝をして、おじさんはタバコを咥えながら釣り糸を垂らす。

夕日が海に入っていくとき、ジュッ！っと音がするでしょ。あの音が写真から聴こえてくるまでがんばろうと思ってる。

さぁ、明日はどんなふるさとを追いかけようか
