初心忘れるべからず（徒歩日本縦断#89）

89日目の今日は2日間お世話になった岡山の家で起床

全然他人なのに、毎日美味しくて栄養のあるご飯や温かいお風呂に入れていただいて、最後は「また機会があったら帰ってきなね」と言っていただけて、本当に素敵な思い出ができた。

朝も栄養満点の美味しいご飯をいただいて、再スタートに準備は万端だ

そんな今日はお遍路後の休養日も終えて、いよいよ岡山から西へ。改めて徒歩日本縦断の旅路を歩き始める。

そんなスタート地点は岡山の国宝。吉備津神社だ

まだ朝の冷え込んだ空気の中。始まりの鐘を鳴らす。鐘の音は冷たい空気を切り裂いて遙か遠くまで響いて横石の旅路を後押しした…気がした…

まずはのどかな田園風景の中を倉敷方面に向かって歩く

お遍路では毎日50キロを歩く日々を送っていたが、この再スタートでは靴を3足目に変えているので2.3日は足に慣らす意味も込めて様子を見ながらの歩行だ。靴を変えるとしばらくはまだ固い靴の影響で足のどこかしらに不調が出るのが分かっているのがまた怖い。

案の定歩き始めてすぐにいつもと違う靴だからなのか、膝に若干の違和感が出るもまだ気にせず歩けるのでとりあえず進んでいく

1時間ほど歩いて倉敷市へ。

倉敷に入ってからも

幹線道路に入れば都会の風景が広がったり、

少し幹線道路を逸れるとのどかな風景が広がったり、

アップダウンもなく、当たり障りのないのどかな道を歩いていく

まぁようするに。なにもない。

だからこそ「のどか」なのかもしれないが、ないものはないし、ブログに書けるようなものもない。

が、しかしこんなのどかな道のりの途中で足が悲鳴をあげる。

まだ靴が硬いので、くるぶしの部分とくるぶしが擦れあって、20キロも歩いた頃にはなかなかの痛みが襲う。

「靴を変えたら不調が起きる」

悪いジンクスは的中するもんだ

なにもない道のりの分、余計に痛む足が脳内を支配していく。

だけども、何千キロも歩いていれば靴はいずれ変えなければいけないし、靴を変えればやって来る痛みだ。真摯に向き合うしかない。

足が痛いと言ってへこたれてても前には進めないし、徒歩旅は忍耐あってこそだ。

ここは我慢して進もう

痛む足をかばって歩き方を変えないように気をつけて山陽新幹線の高架下をを歩いていく

今痛むのは表面的な痛みなので我慢すれば済む話だが、歩き方が変わってしまって骨や筋肉、関節が痛むと我慢では済まなくなって来るので、あくまで歩き方は痛くても変えずに進む

こんなに歩き方や痛みを気にするなんて、北海道をスタートしたあの頃を思い出す。

いつしか歩くことに慣れて、筋肉もついて、当たり前のように50キロを歩けるようになっていたが、「たまには初心を忘れるなよ」と神様に言われているようだ

そして新倉敷駅を過ぎ

ありがたくも地元の方に差し入れを頂いたり、「がんばれ！」という声をかけていただいたり、我慢していた痛みはだんだん気にならなくなってきた。

その後は相変わらずのどかな道のりを進み

金光→鴨方→里庄と青春18きっぷ旅も好きな横石にとっては馴染みのある名前の町を歩いて

国道2号に合流した頃には歩いた距離も35キロを超えて夕日が落ちていた

夕日に向かって歩いていると、改めて「西へ向かっている」という感覚が湧いて来る

四国のお遍路1100キロという壮大な寄り道は挟んだが、またこうやって徒歩日本縦断の正規ルートに帰ってこれたことに感謝しなければならないなぁ…

相変わらずくるぶしは痛むが、だいぶ新しい靴にも慣れてきて最後の10キロはいつも通りの歩行スピードに戻る

もうひとつの空

午後5時にもなればすぐに日が落ちる

それと同時に気温も一気に下がり、秋も深まっていることを実感。こうやってすぐに冬になるんだろうな…

道の駅までは残り4キロほどだったが、残り2キロを切ったところで

あえなく日没に。まだ5時半なのにもう真っ暗だ

本当は5時にはついている予定だったが、足の痛みもあって少し狂ってしまった。

最後は歩道のないバイパスを車に最大限気を使いながら

5時45分に道の駅笠岡ベイファームに到着

ここは畳付きの休憩所が24時間解放されている旅人にとってはありがたい道の駅だが、横石にとっては因縁の道の駅である

あれは3年前の夏。自転車日本一周一年目の時にここで寝ていた深夜に、ホモとしか考えられないようなおっさんに添い寝をされるという恐怖体験をしているのだ。

今宵はあのおっさんは来るのだろうか。

歩行距離 44キロ

岡山県岡山市→笠岡市

総歩行距離 3105キロ
