旅の原点（徒歩日本縦断#90）

90日目の今日は岡山県笠岡市の道の駅笠岡ベイファームで起床

24時間空いている休憩所の畳で思う存分寝れた

今回は三年前の自転車日本一周の時にここで泊まった時に起きたホモのおっさん添い寝事件も流石になく、安心しながら朝を迎える

そんな今日はいよいよ広島県に入って、横石の大好きな町尾道を目指す。

尾道は高校三年生の時に初めてのひとり旅で青春18切符片手に鈍行を乗り継いで辿り着いた思い出の場所だ。

なんで初めてのひとり旅でここを訪れたかっていうのは

知る人ぞ知る名作。ぼくのなつやすみ4の舞台が尾道から続く瀬戸内海の島々を舞台としていて、このなんとも言えないノスタルジー溢れる島々とそれを繋ぐ橋の風景に昔から惚れ込んでいたからだ。（これはマジで大人の方にこそオススメする神ゲーです。プレイしてると懐かしくなって涙出てきます）

ということで尾道はここから40キロほど、観光の時間を長く取るためにも朝早く出たかったが

まさかの朝から雨。

雲行きは悪くないが雨脚は強いので、歩きたい気持ちをぐっと抑えて1時間ほど待機していると、願いが通じたのか7時半過ぎには止んだ。

急いで準備をして7時50分に出発

雨が止むと天気は一気に青空になった。

多少スタートは遅れたが、気持ちよく歩く

歩き始めて1時間ほどで

広島県へ入る。

北海道からお遍路を挟んで3110キロ。17都道府県目にもなるらしい。

知らぬ間に随分歩いてきたなぁと改めて感じながら広島県を歩き始める

ここからは福山市街を歩く幹線道路沿いになるので特段ブログに載せるほどの風景もないが

一応こんな感じということで載せておこうかな

皆さん気になる横石の足の調子だが、靴を変えた初日の昨日に比べれば多少の痛みはあるものの随分と楽になった。やはり靴が柔らかく足に馴染めば横石に敵はいなくなりそうだ。と言いたいところだけど、長距離歩けばいくら靴が馴染もうがしんどいので油断しないようにしなきゃ。自戒自戒。

さらに10キロほど歩くと

駅前からは多少離れているが福山市街の商店街へ。このなんともいえない寂れた感じがたまらない。時刻も11時前になってかれこれ三時間歩き通したので、無理はせずここで少し休憩をして足を休める。

足の痛みは別として、やはり靴が硬いと足への疲労も溜まりやすい。感覚としては普段のプラス10キロの疲労だ。ここからはのんびりこまめに休憩を取りながら尾道を目指す

そして福山市街から10キロほど歩いて尾道へ

時刻は午後2時半なので、ここから後7キロほど歩いたところにある尾道でどうしても行きたかった場所、千光寺公園にも日暮れ前に間に合いそうだ。

道中は優しい広島弁のおっちゃんに差し入れをもらって励まされ

小船と造船所の立ち並ぶ、いよいよ尾道らしい風景となってきた

この造船所がまたたまらなく旅情を誘ってくれる。どこか懐かしいような、そんな港町の雰囲気だ。

尾道市街に入ると、少し山手に道をそれ、いよいよ「坂の街」尾道を堪能コースへ

これまた味のあるアーケード街を抜けて

踏切を渡ると、早速階段が見えてくる。

何度も言うが、この雰囲気が本当に好きなのだ横石は。なんでやねんと言われても好きなものは好きなのだ。

「生きた街並み」とでも言うのだろうか。生活感が随所に垣間見られる、観光地化されていない日本のふるさとの風景が見れるのがたまらないのだ。

千光寺に向かう道のりはこんな感じの情緒あふれる階段ばかりの街並みだが、お遍路で階段や坂道には慣れっこだ。毎日のようにこれの数倍ある階段を登らされてたから。

というかむしろこういう坂道を上っていると疲れていた身体が軽くなる。

不思議なもんだ。なんでだろうか。登り道があるとどうしてもワクワクしてしまう性なのだろくか。

そしてさらに登って尾道市街を見下ろすと

五重の塔と市街地、尾道水道を挟んで瀬戸内海の島々とこれ以上ない眺望を望める場所へと出た。

尾道水道は島々を繋ぐ人の生活の一部になっている。渡し船は10分に1回出ているし、たくさんの人が今もその船を使って登校したり出勤したり買い物をしたりする。今の日本にこんな光景が見られる場所が後どのくらい残っているのだろうか。

尾道はその風景は言うまでもなく、そこに住む人々の生活も含めて大事な日本の文化遺産なのだ。

そして千光寺に到着。

尾道市街を見下ろす高台に位置するお寺だが、狙ったわけでもないのに中国観音10番札所となっているらしい。つい最近1番札所を参拝した気がするが…いやいや横石は巡礼しているわけではないのだ。ないのになぜか巡礼のようになっているのだ。笑笑

お遍路を終えたようで終えていない気がして少し戸惑いながらも、更に上の展望台に登ろうとすると納経所のお姉さんに話しかけられた。

そして四国お遍路をつい最近回っていた話をすると、「そうなのね！すぐ横に大師堂があるからお参りしていきな！」と言われてあれよあれよと言う間にお姉さんが叩く木魚のリズムに合わせて経を唱えることに。笑

なんだこの展開。しかもこんな展開になってもしっかり身に染み付いたお経を唱えられるところがまた面白い。

謎にお姉さんと友情で結ばれた横石は、一路改めて展望台を目指して残り数百メートルを駆け上がり

夕暮れに染まるふるさとの風景をしっかり目に焼き付ける事ができた。

尾道に来たのはかれこれ6回目だ。

それだけここを訪れていて、なおこの風景が好きなのは本当にこの地に惚れているからだと思う。

日本を旅すればするほど、更に深く日本が大好きになってもっと知りたくなってくる。

横石は「日本で1番日本を知っている大学生になる」のが１つの目標で、実際これほど自分の足で日本を放浪する大学生はほぼいないと思うが、まだまだだなぁとこの風景を見ていると改めて思ってしまう。もっと素敵な自分なりの「お気に入り」を見つけたいなぁ…

しばらく展望台でぼーっとしてたが、日暮れの時間も迫ってきたので下山。

そんな道中では、更に狭くてマニアックな道を開拓してみた

「猫の恩返し」とかに出てきそうな路地裏の本当に小さな小道だ。

そして尾道は「猫の町」と言われるほどに名の通り猫が多い。

「君のニャは」

路地裏の狭い坂道のそこら中で猫がのんびりくつろいでいるから思わず足が止まって顔がほころんでしまう。

猫がこうやってのんびり出来るのも、この町に流れる空気が優しくのんびりしているからだろう。これこそ横石が探してやまない日本のふるさとの空気なんだよなぁ…

なんでだろう、涙が出た

そんな夕暮れに染まるふるさとをのんびり歩く

初めてのひとり旅を、人は一生忘れない

高校生の頃、得体の知れぬ高揚感を胸に、初めてのひとり旅で電車に乗って通ったこの線路を、今度は歩いて横切った

夕日は優しく、それでも確かに、これから行く先を照らしていた。

そして今日の野宿先へ

先ほどまでの旧市街地ののどかさと一転変わって、新市街の新しい住宅街が並ぶ中の高台にある広い公園の東屋で寝ることにした

とりあえず子供達が帰るのを待って、静かなテントを張った…
