道を外れるということ（re:日本一周#17）

遍路小屋の朝は早かった

久しぶりの屋内での睡眠でぐっすり寝た2人はお世話になった遍路小屋にお辞儀をして、四国最南端の地へ走り始める

四国最南端足摺岬へは、残り7キロ程度だった

激しいアップダウンも朝の元気とさいはてに着くというワクワクで気持ちよく走る

そして…

どうやら辿り着いたらしい

ここが最南端 足摺岬で間違い無いだろう

どこまでも広がる太平洋を眺めても「日本」はもう存在しないから。

あるのは水平線の先に存在するはずの、見えない新たな世界と、それを眺める男2人の息遣いだけだった

見えないからこそロマンがあった。

この海の先は何の国か、どんな人が住んでいるのか、そんなことにあんまり興味はなくて、純粋に「このクソ広い大海原の先にまだ見たことのない何かがある」そうやって想像することにどこまでも広がるロマンがあった

辿り着いたら、そこがスタートだ

最南端に着けば次は北へ向かって走り始める

Nの指針に従って、男2人はまた走り始めた

かつて異国の地に流れ着いたジョン万次郎の像がそこにはあった

俺も流れるように旅をしたい

何にも逆らうことなく、流れるように走って、疲れたら星が見える草原で休んで、また走って

そうやって走り続けて、米粒くらいに見えなくなって消えていきたい

なんてバカなことを思いながら、足摺岬を後にした。

そしてカイトと足摺岬から北へ向かって走っている途中、ふと別れ道を見つけた

まっすぐ行けば近道だけど国道

右はそれれば遠回りだけど県道

普通は国道を選ぶだろう

だけどこの時、異様に県道を走りたかった

国道の大きな道に飽きていたのだ

走り去る車の排ガスにまみれてまで自転車で走るのに、少し飽きていた

何も考えずに、のんびり県道を走りたくて、2人して右へ曲がった

海沿いの道から逸れて、のどかな山道に入ると、そこには国道では見ることの出来ない風景が広がっていた

のどかすぎる田園風景の里山

流れる時間はどこまでもゆっくりしていた

走ることがこれほどまでに気持ちいいことはなかなか無かった。もう気持ちは、少年の頃に虫取り網を持って野山を駆け回ったあの時の純真さそのままだった。

道は里山から渓流沿いの山道に変わっていく

飽きることなく、変わっていく自然の美しさと空の青さに思わず立ち止まる

透き通る清流では、魚たちの鱗が太陽に反射してキラキラしている

そんなキラキラを狙って、青い宝石カワセミが清流にダイブする。

どんな絵の具を使っても、どんな性能のいいグラフィックを使っても、こんなに美しい色は出せないだろう。自然には自然にしか出せない美しさが確実にあると実感する。

もしも人間がその美しい色を作り出せると豪語するなら、それほど傲慢なことはない。

だったら自然なんぞ、とうに全てをぶち壊してコンクリートを敷き詰めてしまえばいい。

そんなこととても出来ない、自然がなによりも尊いものだって本能でわかってるからこそ、人間は都会での生活に疲れた時に、自然の美しい色を見にいくんだと思う。

道を外れ、寄り道することで、こんなにも美しい世界が見れるなんて

道を一つ外れるだけで、その後に見ることのできる風景は大きく変わる

人生だってそうだろう

国道のような大きくて安定した道が正解だとは限らない。県道のような細々と、だけどのどかで牧歌的な道を好む人だってきっといる。

道を歩んだ後に見れる風景は人それぞれ違う

でもだからこそ面白い

だからこそ自分の価値観を押し付けることはつまらない。

もし違う道を歩いている人がいたなら、その道の風景を、美しさをそっと教えて欲しい。

「自分の道が正しいんだ」と押し付けるのではなく、「こんなに美しい風景もあったよ。君の道はどう？」ってそっと耳打ちしてほしい

そんな話をつまみに美味しいお酒が飲めれば、きっとそれだけで幸せだと思うんだ

そんなことを18歳の心で実感していた

俺らはどんな道を歩くんだろうな

なんて前を走るカイトの背中を見ながら考えてた

気づけば愛媛県に戻ってきた

差し入れでもらった昔懐かしいカキ氷を食べながら、愛媛県を進んでいく

男2人の四国一周も終盤だ

今日は宇和島の道の駅で野宿をすることに

明日はどんな道が待ってるかな

そう考えながら、いつのまにか眠っていた

走行距離 125キロ

高知県土佐清水市→愛媛県宇和島市

総走行距離 2094キロ
