博多美人を探して（re:日本一周#22）

22日目は山口の宇部市からスタート

いよいよ九州、博多を目指して走る

22日目の道のり

今日、俺の地元埼玉は台風が直撃しているらしい。携帯に突然避難勧告が出てびっくり

思えば旅に出てから関東地方は雨続きと家族から連絡が来る。台風も普段は西に来るのに、今回は関東地方に上陸で直撃だ。どんだけ俺晴れ男なんだとこの時ばかりは感謝しながら走り始める

まずは宇部から山陽小野田→下関と走って、いよいよ九州への玄関口にやってきた

対岸には九州の大地が見える

22日走り続けてやっと辿り着いた

小さい頃から親戚の家があって毎年夏休みに遊びにきていた九州に、新幹線や飛行機ではなく今度は自分の足で辿り着く。どこか感慨深い気持ちになりながら、すぐそこにある九州を眺める

九州ではどんな冒険が待ってるんだろう

大砲に願いを込めて、ワクワクを九州に託す

親戚の家がある長崎はもちろん、行ったことがない沖縄だって、日本にはまだ見ぬことがないワクワクがたくさん眠っている気がした

下関から福岡の門司へ自転車で渡るには関門人道トンネルという自転車や歩行者専用のトンネルを通らなければいけない

人道トンネルは地下50メートルに位置するため、まずはこの入り口からエレベーターで50メートル下へ降りる

自転車と一緒にエレベーターに乗るという初めての経験をして、いざ、門司まで700mの人道トンネルの旅へ

少し味のある人道トンネルは、なんならジョギングの人たちもいるくらいに地域の方々に根付いたトンネルだった。

ジョギングの人たちは門司→下関間を何往復もしているらしいけど、なんていう贅沢なジョギングなんだろうか

海底を通る人道トンネルを進むと700mのちょうど半分、350m付近に福岡と山口の県境が見えてくる

観光客の人がこぞってこの県境をジャンプしてはしゃいだり、またぐ写真を撮ったりしていたので、ミーハーヨコイシも例に漏れずしっかり撮影

そんなこんなでいよいよ九州だ

エレベーターを上にあがり、門司に降り立った途端、目の前の関門海峡を通ったのは

どでかい軍艦？のような船だった

周りのおじいさんたちは日本の旗を振りながら

「がんばれぇぇ！」「いってこぉぉい！」なんて声をかけていて、トンネルを抜けた瞬間タイムスリップしたかと思ったけど、門司に広がる近代的な街を見て安心する

そして博多まで走り始めるとおかしなことに気づいた

それは「博多まで◯km」という道路標識を見た時だ。表示には90キロと書いてある。

「これはおかしい」そう思った

いつも新幹線に乗っていると小倉から博多までものの数十分で着いてしまうのに、90キロ？！自転車だったら半日かかるやん！

禁断の事実に気づいてしまう

文明の利器にどれだけ助けられているか、この時ばかりは人間のすごさを目の当たりにした

俺の予定では2.3時間で博多だったのに…

倍の時間をかけて博多まで向かうことになってしまった

気を取り直して、気合いを入れ、博多に向かって走り始める。博多美人がきっとヨコイシを待っていると信じることで、自分の気を保った

福岡からは国道3号を走って博多を目指す

そして、のんびりと猛暑の九州を走って、午後四時には博多にたどり着いた

今日はネットカフェに泊まって、博多ラーメンや博多美人探しの夜の旅に出ることにする

「旅に出ます探さないでください」

そう心の中でつぶやいて、夜の街に繰り出した

走行距離 130キロ

山口県宇部市→福岡県福岡市

総走行距離 2710キロ
